The state of Bihar, located in eastern India, is one of the oldest sites in the world. The history here is more than three thousand years old. The historical heritage of culture and faith has always been an important place in the old sites of Bihar. The customs, traditions, cultural festivals, and fairs here always entice the tourist. The best time to visit here is during the months of October to March as the weather here is very pleasant. There are many tourist places in Bihar. The top 10 places to visit in Bihar are:

1. Golghar

Golghar is located on the west side of Gandhi Maidan in Patna city, the capital of Bihar. This Golghar was built by the British government to store food grains. In this Golghar, 1,40,000 tons of food grains can be kept at one time. With 145 stairs, you can go to the top of it from where you can see the beautiful view of the city of Patna as well as the river Ganga.

2. Vishwa Shanti Stupa

This Stupa is located in Rajgir town of Nalanda district. This Vishwa Shanti Stupa is a famous historical place. It is situated at the highest point of Rajgir hill at an altitude of 400 meters. This Shanti Stupa is the famous tourist point of Rajgir and the center of faith is made of white marble stone. One can use ropeway to reach the stupa. By the way, there is also a way to walk on foot to reach it. 

3. Badi dargah of Bihar Sharif

This dargah is located in Bihar Sharif city of Nalanda district. This dargah is the tomb of the great Sufi Hazrat Makhdoom Sheikh Safrooddin Ahmed Yahia Maneri Pir Baba. People of all religions bring their request to dargah and the wishes of all are fulfilled here. Here, on the fifth day of Eid every year, the annual celebration is celebrated with great pomp. People come here to this dargah not only from India but also from abroad. 

4. Naulakha Palace

This palace is based in Madhubani and is located on the banks of the Kamala River in Rajnagar city of the district, also known as the Rajnagar complex. This palace was built by Maharaja Rameshwar Singh of Darbhanga. This palace was damaged due to an earthquake in the year 1934 which has been rebuilt. This palace is surrounded by gardens on all three sides. There are many historical places here, tourists can roam through them. 

5. Patna museum

This museum is located in Patna city. This museum was built in the year 1917, during British rule. If one wants to get information about the history of Bihar, then there is no better place than Patna Museum. Here one can get a glimpse of the entire heritage of Bihar under one roof. There is a lot of historical design of the Mughal period in these places which is a history in itself. 

6.Takht Shri Patna Sahib Gurdwara

This gurudwara is located in Patna Sahib in Patna city. His full name is Takht Shri Harmandir ji. This Gurudwara is a historical site associated with the Sikh faith. This place was the birthplace of the tenth Sikh Guru Govind Singh. Guru Gobind Singh was born on 26 December 1666. His childhood name was Gobind Rai. This gurudwara was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, which is a beautiful piece of architectural art. 

7. Mahabir temple

This temple is located outside Patna Junction in Bihar towards the north. This temple is one of the famous temples in North India and it is also known as Hanuman Temple. Mahabir Temple was established by Swami Balananda in the year 1730. In this temple, idols of all the gods and goddesses are installed beside the idol of Lord Hanuman. Thousands of people visit this temple daily to fulfill their wishes. 

8. Nalanda University 

This university is located in Rajgir town of Nalanda district. Nalanda University is the oldest university in the world. It was founded in 450 AD by Kumaragupta, the ruler of the Gupta dynasty. Most foreign students used to study here. The number of students studying here used to be around 10 thousand and about 2 thousand teachers were involved to teach those 10 thousand students. Therefore, Nalanda University is liked not only by the people of India but also by foreigners.

9. Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park

Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park is also known as zoo is located near Bailey Road in Patna city. The zoo also has a park through which millions of people come here to roam and enjoy a picnic. This zoo was opened to the general public in the year 1973. Around 800 animals were kept in this zoo. The park is spread over 152 acres and 20 to 25 lakh tourists come here every year for sightseeing. 

10. Mahabodhi Temple 

This temple is located in Bodh Gaya city of the district Gaya. The temple of Lord Gautama Buddha is located in the Mahabodhi Temple. The structure of this Mahabodhi temple is similar to that of the stupa established by Emperor Ashoka. Lord Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment by doing penance under the Bodhi tree. Since then, this place has become quite important for Buddhist religions. This temple is built at the same place where Lord Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment.
