Covid 19 affected a lot of businesses in all sectors. But the most affected sector is the tourism sector. Due to this virus, tourists visit India affected a lot and now it is affecting the hospitality business. Before 2020, tourist visit to heritage sites in India was a trending thing and only at Taj Mahal, the visitors were recorded about 5.6 million and India has 38 world heritage sites.

The 5 major effects of coronavirus on heritage tourism in India are:


1. Reduction in tourist visits in India

For the last 1 year, there has been a decrease of 90% in tourist travel in India. All the heritage sites are empty and no one is going there. The government has not yet allowed tourists to visit and it directly affects the tourism business.



2. Direct Impact on Indian Economy

From tourism, US $ 29.96 billion was collected in the year 2019 and since 2020, it has fallen by 90% and it directly affects Indian GDP and tourism has also affected transportation, construction and many ways. 


3. The hospitality business is completely at a loss

The hospitality business is completely closed and no hotels are currently operational near heritage sites. Those hotels and restaurants, which depended on tourist visits, are facing a lot of trouble and suffering huge losses. 


4. Loss of transport business

As per government rules, no passenger vehicles is allowed to carry passengers more than 70% people and this affects local transport and currently, the private airlines, buses, trains, and other public transport is facing the lockdown issue and all businesses are shutdown. 


5.Lack of job and money for local guides

The lockdown due to the virus the most affected people are local guides at heritage sites. They were dependent on tourists and currently, they have no work and lack of money and they are suffering a lot. 




Due to Corona virus, the maintenance of heritage sites are also affected and there are more other problems, the local people, the government and businesses are continuously facing.
