The fort of Panhala located in the Kolhapur district of Maharashtra, was built by Raja Bhoj in the 12th century, this fort was built at a very high height to avoid enemy attacks. Compared to other forts, this fort is like a triangle and has been ruled by many rulers. Shivaji made this fort his headquarters after being under Adil Shah.

History

Most of the fort of Maharashtra was built and renovated by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Most of the interiors of the Panhala fort built by Bhoj II during the 1178 to1209 by Sultan and it is still in strong condition. During the 1202 to1210, King Bhoja suffered defeat by the Yadav king Singhana of Devagiri in a battle and then this fort was occupied by the Yadavas but the Yadavas did not pay much attention to the care of this fort and gradually this fort kept going under the control of different spatial rulers. This fort has been used as a frontier post during the Bahmani rulers of Bidar.

In 1479, Bijapur went under the occupation of the Adil Shahi dynasty and they worked extensively to secure this fort from all sides. He had given special attention to strengthening the walls and doors of this fort and took many years to complete this work. In 1669, Afzal Khan of Bijapur died. Taking advantage of this, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj snatched the Panhala Fort from Bijapur, but Adil Shah II sent Siddi Johar to fight again to get this fort from Shivaji Maharaj. But he failed to regain this fort and returned empty-handed. But this fight lasted for about five months. Due to this, all the important stuff inside the fort was going to run out and the chances of Shivaji Maharaj being caught were very high. In such a situation Shivaji Maharaj had no way but to escape from the dam because the Mughals could not be trusted under any circumstances, so he left for the huge fort at night time on 13 July 1660 but in the middle On the way, Baji Prabhu Deshpande did all the work to stop Johar's army and one of his companions was dead. Both Baji Prabhu Deshpande and Sivakasi fought hard with the enemy's army. Sivakasi had to be seen and he looked exactly like Shivaji Maharaj. His battle with the enemy's army lasted long and the enemy's army felt that Shivaji Maharaj himself was fighting with them. Baji Prabhu was facing 1200 soldiers there with 300 soldiers, Shivaji Maharaj's army had suffered a great loss in this fierce war and more than three-fourth of his army had been killed. Baji Prabhu Deshpande himself was also martyred in it and later this fort again went into the possession of Adil Shah. But Shivaji Maharaj regained the fort in the last year 1673, but shortly after that Shivaji Maharaj passed away on April 1680.

In 1673, when Shivaji Maharaj ruled the Panhala Fort, at that time there were 15 thousand horses and 20 thousand army in the fort. After the death of Shivaji Maharaj, Sambhaji became the Chhatrapati of the Maratha Empire. When the general of Aurangzeb was arrested in Peshawar with the noble of Aurangzeb in 1679 , then this Panhala fort went into the possession of the Mughals. But the fort was regained by Kashi Ranganath Sir Poddar under the guidance of Maratha commander Parashuram Pant representative of the huge fortress fort in 1692, but in the last one in 1701 the fort was again occupied by Aurangzeb. But a few months after this incident, the Maratha army led by Ramchandra Pant Amatya again took control of this fort.

In 1693, Aurangzeb once again attacked this fort. As a result, Raja Rama had to leave the Panhala and go to the Zanzi fort. Raja Ram had to leave the Panhala in such a hurry that his 14-year-old wife Tarabai missed the Pannalal fort. Aurangzeb wanted to hold Rajaram under any circumstances, so he fell behind Raja Ram. During this period, Tarabai had to stay alone at Panhala Fort for a full five years and only after that she could meet Raja Ram. During this critical time, Tarabai handled all the business of the fort single-handedly and took care of the sufferings of the people. Because of which people started respecting her. During the time she spent in the fort of Panhala, she learned all the functions of the court and she also got the support of his court official. Raja Ram sent his army from Jinji Fort to the Panhala Fort and on October 1693, the fortified fortress again came under the control of the Maratha army. Rajaram died in 1700 and was survived by his 12-year-old son Shivaji II and wife Tarabai. In 1705, Rani Tarabai established her power and ruled her son Shivaji II as the representative of the Panhala Fort. In 1708, Tarabai had to fight with Shahuji of Satara. But she had to face defeat in that battle.

In 1709, she conquered and established her new state of Kolhapur and made Panhala the capital. Panhala was ruled by her from 1782 years. The capital was changed from Panhala to Kolhapur in 1782, but during the reign of Shaji I in 1827, Panahala and Pavangarh were handed over to the British. But in 1844 when Shivaji IV was younger, then some revolutionary people took Colonel Owens captive while they were going on a tour and those revolutionaries recaptured Panhala. But on 1 December 1844, the British gave the army under the leadership of Dhela Moth and attacked Panhala. The fort was captured and since then the British stationed their army on Panhala forever. Kolhapur had control of this fort until the year 1947.

To protect this Panhala, a residence in the greenery of Sahyadri, an embankment has been carried out for a distance of seven kilometers and to further strengthen this embankment, three large gates with two walls have been installed in it. There are plenty of places to visit in Maharashtra but the best place for treking is on the way from Panshala to Pavan Kund. At the same place, that war has been named as the Holy Fund. This trekking route is about 50 kilometers. To know what happened in history, people still come to see this fort and are immersed in the glorious history of the country and looks quite beautiful from the hill on which this fort is built. This fort of Kolhapur looks quite big to see, but when this fort was being built, it was ruled by Adil Shah. When Adil Shah built the Panhala fort, another fort was built with him, but when building this fort, he thought to build the port inside a similar fort instead of making it another place, which means it is above - if seen The Panhala is the only fort. But when viewed closely, another fort is also seen inside this fort. The fort which he used to trap the enemy's army in his trap,
