The area of the Vindhya mountains in central India could be monitored far and wide over the apple plains on the high mountains. Excellent place to build a fort. A magnificent fort of Gwalior is built on one such hill. It is built on a long and narrow hill of Gop Giri and was once one of the most magnificent forts in India.

Gwalior has seen kings and attackers touch the heights of success and come to the ground. It has seen the rule of many Hindu lineages, Turks, Afghans, Mughals, Marathas and British who have hardly seen anyone else. The Maratha Scindia dynasty took power in the last days of the 18th century. During his reign, Gwalior was spread over 60 thousand square kilometers.

The fort remained a British post until India's independence. There is no concrete information about when this fort was built. There are only myths and stories. The recorded history of Gwalior Fort is about 13 hundred years old. It is believed that cave temples of Jainism were built here in the beginning between the seventh and 15th centuries. One of the many stone sculptures is the huge eight feet tall statue of Adinath, the first Tirthankara of Jainism.

The fort of Gwalior is a magnificent piece of architecture that is about two and a half kilometers long and has an average width of about one kilometer. Its ramparts are built on the peaks of the mountain and in most parts, it is absolutely straight. The fort of Gwalior is counted among the most beautiful historical buildings in India. Babar, the first Mughal emperor of India, called this fort in the necklace of the forts of India, where Moti said the secret of the grandeur of this fort is hidden. In the palaces built inside it such as the Maan temple which is famous for its excellent tile work. It was built in 1486.

The great ruler of Gwalior was Tomar Rajput King Mansingh. But after the attacks of the Turk Pathan Afghans and the Mughals, a large dark aspect was added to this fort. The story of Manmandir is full of contrast, it is very beautiful from the outside, but as soon as you go down its stairs, there will be a dark smelly, and creepy cellar in front. Many dark places are hidden in these dark rooms. These corridors lead to a dangerous prison towards hell. Nobody knows what actually happened in these jails, but you used to hear the screams of prisoners. Whoever threatened the Mughal Sultanate was imprisoned in the cellars of the Gwalior Fort. Not only close relatives, but the Mughal emperors would also have had their immediate brothers imprisoned in these dungeons. The throne could have belonged to the brother-in-law. In that respect, the prisoner had little chance of surviving. The situation was extremely difficult and release or running away was almost impossible. It was as if the time used to stay in these jails. Those who pose a threat to the throne were ruthlessly removed from the road. A special way of the Mughals was to forcefully feed opium to such people. Some are drunk for many years and do not create any conspiracy.

The inmates of these jails may have belonged to the royal family, but after being in captivity, they forgot their comfortable life and everything became a dream for them. Those on the other hand were the favorites of the emperor. He lived a life of comfort in these beautiful palaces. The palatial buildings built in and around Raja Mansingh's palace contain some of the finest examples of architecture in India inside the fort walls inhabited by the Raj family, who are unique examples of India's construction art and craftsmanship. But hidden behind this beauty, they do not see that terrible form. In the era of the Mughals, the luxurious halls built under the Manamandir Mahal were converted into heart-wrenching torture houses. It is said that the prisoners would be hanged with these iron rings, but this was the beginning of their torture. The methods of torturing the Mughals were extremely unique and sometimes required specialization for them. Being a close relative of the emperor was not always a good thing but would often prove to be trouble. A lot of trouble. It was difficult to keep away from the race without knowing the possible title of the throne, but they had many other ways. One cannot become a king without eyes. And there was no one to listen to their screams in these dungeons.
