There is a beautiful place on the Deccan plateau in Karnataka. Dwar Samundra. It remained the capital of the Hoysala empire for nearly 300 years, but in the 14th century, the army of the Sultans of Delhi destroyed the city. Luckily, in today's Halebeedu city, which is located outside the capital, some scenes survived that attack. One of them was the Hoysaleswar Temple.

This city is very beautiful and very mysterious, even the stalwarts are surprised to see the crafts and carvings of stones. Looking at the pillars made here, it seems that they have been made with today's tools but some god was created. Nine hundred years ago, this was the era of the most powerful king of the Hoysala dynasty. Earlier his name was Bitti Dev and he believed in Jainism but he was also very influenced by the Hindu philosopher Ramanujacharya.

Who built the Hoysaleswara temple?

This great philosopher advised the Jain king to adopt a new religion and then in the early 12th century, the king adopted Vaishnavism. He also named his name Vishnu Vardhan. During his reign, Hoysala became an independent Kannadiga kingdom. Hoysaleswar Temple is located between Bangalore and Mangalore. On the outskirts of Halebeedu city near the city of Hassan. King Vishnuvardhan had built many large stately buildings. The most spectacular of them is the Hoyesaleswara Temple.

Architecture

In the Hoysaleswar temple, two exactly identical chambers are built next to it. One for King Vishnuvardhan and the other for Queen Shantla Devi. Vishnu Vardhan was a great warrior and literature and art flourished greatly during his reign. Rani Shantla was a skilled dancer and Hoysaleswar Temple is also devoted to her and her husband. This building is built on a high platform. There are 12 stone carvings on this platform, which increases the height of the temple. Cement or mortar is not used to connect these layers, rather they are interlocked.

A unique technique used thousands of years ago. I do not know how the people who built it would have imagined this building and built it. No evidence has been found on whether he used wooden planks and models. Not only the king liked this technique of interlocking stones, but because of that, the temple remains intact till today. After nearly a thousand years, the temple stands firmly there. Hundreds of beautiful sculptures are built on its outer walls, with the help of which not only that period but also the mythology of Hinduism is depicted. Therefore, the Hoysaleswar temple is a Lord Shiva temple, yet there are idols of Lord Vishnu and other gods.

These sculptures were made of soapstone, which is quite soft at first but hardens with time. This allowed artisans to work so closely. But the workmanship inside the temple is made just by looking. Inside are magnificent statues of the destroyer Shiva standing in low light. Each statue is made from a stone. Its nuance is beyond comprehension.

There are skulls on the crown of Lord Shiva which are about an inch wide, but the amazing thing is that these small balls are hollowed in such a way that the light passing through them comes out through the eyes of the eye and comes out of the ears. is. The question arises that how the holes were made in them with hand tools only a thousand years ago.

The question is not the only one. Therefore, the pillar of Hoysaleswar is still a wonder made of only one stone. They have very finely rounded grooves that were impossible to make with a chisel and hammer. Experts also believe that this work can be done. Only lying on a lathe machine is a machine that rotates something in one place. After this, a shape or pattern is made by applying pressure.

Analysis for architects

In modern times, the lathe is used in most industries, but what machine would have been used by our ancestors to roll such large columns of stone, it would be completely wrong to say that the machine they used was less than today's machines and it would probably be a mistake to underestimate human mind. What we are seeing today is proof of the long journey of the human mind and it would be absolutely wrong to say that there could have been more than human intelligence. There is no concrete evidence associated with this, but Theories are numerous. Some people even said that this work was not for humans giving for Hoysaleswar temple, it is a unique piece of architecture in South India even today.
