Mohenjodaro was an important city of Harappan. It is called Mohenjodaro which means "Mound of the dead". I am very interested in the Indus valley civilization and during its research, I found some very facts about Mohenjodaro. Mohenjodaro was a full-fledged city that was perfectly designed considering all requirements for a city and the city was built in a 3km area.

According to evidence, Mohenjodaro was suffered from devastating floods with abnormal depth and duration by Indus and further evidence says that Harappa was succeeded after this disaster and outlasted the Mohenjodaro.

Mohenjodaro was discovered in 1922 by an officer of the archeological survey of India, R.D. Banerji near Indus river in Sindh, Pakistan two years after major excavations had begun at Harappa, some 590 km to the north and after this John Marshall, K. N. Dikshit, Ernest Mackay, and numerous other directors carried out the large scale excavation at Mohenjodaro. According to researchers, Mohenjodaro and Harappa was the biggest city of Indus valley civilization. During excavation, numerous antique items were discovered from the site which includes most unicorn seals, utensils, coins, statues, etc.

The researcher's also found some important monuments during excavation like "Great bath", "Granary" and "Assembly hall".

The Great bath, is the most famous building of Mohenjodaro. It is a work of beautiful brick and this specimen is made in a 6x12 meter area. It has a tank and it is 11.88 meters long and the breadth is 7.01 meters. It is 2.43 meters deep and steps are made on the north and south sides. It is a real masterpiece developed with all considerations. There is also a well built near the bath which provides water in an adjacent room. The bath floor was built with bricks and to stop the leakage, the floor, and outer wall were bituminized. On the four sides of the bath, an open porch was also discovered. After seeing this bath, we can imagine how developed they were at that time because the design of the city was very structured.

The Granary is the largest building of Mohenjodaro which was built with 27 rooms of different shapes and sizes to store food.

In Mohenjodaro, an assembly hall was also found which was built for social gathering and it is a squared pillar hall built in a 90X90 ft area and the site is considered as one of the most important buildings of Mohenjodaro.

Along with these monuments, the researchers also found a few more artifacts, seals, and statue during excavation which includes spindle whorls and needles along with a piece of woven cotton, a bronze figurine of a dancing girl, a seal of Mother Goddess, and a plant growing from her womb, a figurine of a bearded man and a seal of Pashupati Mahadev.

Mohenjodara denotes our history and life of our lost ancestors. If history and historical places attract you then you should visit there at least once in a lifetime where you can feel the beauty of a lost city and visualize the masterpiece of the architects of Mohenjodaro. It is situated in Sindh, Pakistan at a distance of 250 km from Sindh city.
