Hindustan was called the golden bird in the sixth century. Hearing this, these Muslim invaders used to come. One of these was the ruler of Turkey, Ikhtiyar Uddin Muhammad bin Bakhtiar Khilji, at that time, Khilji was the ruler of India. Nalanda University used to be a suburb of Rajgir at that time. It is located on the road connecting Rajgir to Patna. Most of the students studying here were foreigners, at that time 10 thousand students used to study here, two thousand teachers used to guide them.
In this world school of Mahayana Buddhism, along with Hinayana Buddhism, other religions were also taught. The famous Chinese traveler Xuanzang also received a year of education here. It was the first university where there was a hostel to live. Turkish ruler Bakhtiar Khilji set the Nalanda University on fire. It is said that there were so many books in the university that the fire kept burning in the library here for the whole six months. He also killed many Dharmacharya and Buddhist monks. Khilji also occupied some areas ruled by Buddhists in North India.
According to the reason behind the burning of the world-famous Nalanda University, according to the historians, Bakhtiyar Khilji had fallen very ill at one time. His princes also treated him well but to no avail. Then he was advised to get treatment from Acharya Rahul Shripad Ji, head of the Ayurveda department of Nalanda University. He called Acharya Rahul and made a condition before the treatment that he would not take any Indian medicine. He also said that if he is not well, then thinking of getting Acharya murdered, Acharya Rahul Shri Bhadra got into thinking. Then after thinking something, he accepted all the conditions of Khilji. A few days later he reached Khilji with a Quran and told him that read as much as you can of this Quran, I guarantee you that you will be fine. Rahul Bhadra ji applied a medicine paste on some pages of the Quran. Khilji started spitting and turning the pages and in the same way, he slowly started recovering. But even after recovering completely, he forgot the blessings of Hindustani Vaidya. He was jealous of the fact that his lieutenants failed, while a Hindustani Vaidya succeeded in treating him. Then Khilji wondered why Nalanda University, Nalanda University, should put an end to this entire root of knowledge.
After this, history will never forgive him for what he did. Enraged, Khilji ordered the Nalanda University to be set on fire. It is said that there were so many books in the university library that for three to four months the fire kept wandering so much that it was difficult to extinguish it. Even after this, Khilji's mind did not calm down. He got thousands of religious leaders and Buddhist monks of Nalanda murdered. Later, he also ordered to burn the entire Nalanda. There were three major libraries in this university. A library is said to have nine floors, meaning that the library used to have nine low floors, and that library had a total low floor, and books in the three libraries contained in the mistakes of lakhs of rupees. But because of his disguise, not only did Khilji ruin the library of Nalanda, as many monks of Buddhism as there were students studying there, and many physicians were also killed. Students from this region not only from different regions of India but also from Korea, Japan, China, Tibet, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Persia, Turkey, and Greek used to come for education. Nalanda's specially educated graduates used to go out and promote Buddhism as well as other knowledge. In Nalanda, for the addition of Buddhism, subjects related to the word Vidya Vidya Chikha Shastra, Atharvaveda and Samkhya were also taught. Yuvan Shaunak wrote that out of a thousand learned scholars of Nalanda, there were a hundred who knew sutras and shastras and there were five hundred who were traditional in other subjects and had mastered themselves in 20 to 50 subjects. This university was of international fame from the fourth to the 11th century, but Hindustan would never forgive Bakhtiyar Khilji for this big mistake that Muhammad bin Bakhtiar Khilji made by ruining this university.
In 1199, it was destroyed by burning it, but in this case, thousands of rare books were burnt to ashes. Important documents were destroyed. It is said that teachers and Buddhist monks, hiding in their clothes, saved many rare manuscripts and took them to Tibet. Over time, these learned funds converted the Tibetan region into a larger center of Buddhism and enlightenment. Bakhtiyar Khilji was non--charitable and foolish. He tried to take possession of Bengal and Tibet over China, but in this effort, his army was destroyed and he was brought to Dev in half-hearted condition. In Dev Court itself, the assistant Ali Mardan killed Khilji. Bakhtiyarpur, the place where Khilji was buried, has now become the tomb of Pir Baba. Unfortunately, some foolish Hindus also go to ask for a vow at the tomb of that robber and the one who ruined Nalanda. Although now the Nalanda University has been saved to a great extent, but the knowledge which was given to the children here from the fourth to the 11th century, i.e. the education which was given to those who used to come to take education, may not be found here today. This was a little history of Nalanda University.
